Internet geek: Running round Russia from McDonald’s to McDonald’s

One evening back in March, Anabela was siting at home, checking her email when she came across a mail from DUDU, asking her to join a new and exciting project, where everyone can speak his own language. Anabela fell instantly in love with the project and has been working intensely for DUDU ever since.

When Anabela is not working on DUDU, she works as an intensive care nurse and is studying for her degree in human resources management.

Anablela seized the opportunity to become the Portuguese team leader eager to put all the theory that she had been learning on her degree course into action. Anabela works hard building up her team of Portuguese translators.

The greatest challenge for Anabela so far was managing her team of translators while she was on a two week trip to Russia. She ran from Russian McDonald’s to Russian McDonald’s with her laptop, taking advantage of the free internet. Never before has she eaten many burgers in a space of two weeks as she did on that trip to Russia.

Vesile

July 15, 2009

Today I am going to introduce you all to one of my favourite DUDU Users Vesile.

Is she a biscuit...a fridge...a boat...?

Is she a biscuit...a fridge...a boat...?

Vesile from Turkey is able to translate from English into Turkish.

Vesile loves DUDU and all the DUDU team members, and we all love Vesile’s wit and her status updates. We can always count on her for a good metaphor. On Saturday, she was feeling “like a biscuit sank into the milk..molten and ready to fall down…” which had me thinking of a great volcanic biscuit spewing out red-hot crumbs into a glass of milk.

Mounia, a DUDU User from Morocco, translates from Arabic into English.

Mounia is an active contributor to the DUDU site, where she has demystified couscous and the art of cooking it for the DUDU community. When Mounia is not on the DUDU site she can be found out shopping, or entertaining guests in her home. It is holiday season in Morocco and many people visit her.

Mounia is driven to contributing her time to DUDU by a belief that removing the language barrier between people will help solve many of the world’s problems. Mounia enjoys the sense of purpose she gets from being part of the radical DUDU project, facilitating human contact among people from all over the world.

Progress report

DUDU Smart chat is advancing quickly. Sentence suggestion has been imported for Japanese, Russian, Turkish and English.

As the DUDU development team perfects Smart Chat, we, the community team, scour the Internet for suitable volunteers to help test Smart Chat and to help with the correction of machine translated phrases.

Currently the DUDU community needs native English speakers who can also speak Russian, Turkish or Japanese.

Hello world!

July 9, 2009

Welcome to the DUDU community blog.

DUDU is a social networking project that aims to connect the whole world.  At the core of DUDU is the Smart Chat application.  An instant messenger service that simultaneously translates, using human translations — not machine translations.

The DUDU project is only possible thanks to a huge community of volunteer translators.
